Perez is a lawyer who defends the last, the losers, often as an office attorney. His dark, gloomy figure is almost part of the business discrict of Naples, where the scene is set, and where he lives alone in the failure of his private and professional life, as is his only friend, Merolla, a colleague. The only reason for light and hope is the daughter, Tea, engaged with cammorist Francesco Corvino. Resigned to let his own existence run, Perez seems to watch inert the passing of time until he is called to attend Luca Buglione, a regretted cammorist leader, who has decided to collaborate with Justice but claims to be the one to dictate the rules. Buglione has hidden a load of diamonds in the belly of a bull, and he proposes to the lawyer to retrieve it. If these will help, Buglione will set up Corvino and her daughter will be free. Perez accepts, but he will be confronted with the cammorists who kidnap him and his daughter, and the cops who have heard the deal, and put him under control. The love for her daughter will finally exhort him to action, changing his destiny.
