"Cover-boy" is the story of the friendship between Ioan and Michele, respectively Romanian and Italian. The serendipitous encounter of two worlds apart: the travails of a young man, son of the Post-Communist Revolution, who flees his country in search of a better future and the travails of another youth who instead scrapes along the margins of a Western society that is unable to offer gainful employment to so much of its youth. In the background of this rapport between a simple Romanian youth and his marginalized Italian counterpart, there is a West which on one side is still reeling from the collapse of the Communist ideology and on the other, in the clutches of a Capitalist myth which has increasingly assumed, as it propulsive force, harsh competitiveness and an intensification of social inequality.

In Paris, Pablo, 11 years old, lives with his mother in a cheap hotel. He spends his days in cafes, putting up with his mother and her dissolute life. Abandoned by her on a week-end, he decides to go looking for his father. So he bribes Louis, an aimless poker player met in a bar, to drive him to Spain. The unwilling "chauffeur" tries to dump the boy on the way, but to no avail. The search leads to the mother's various ex-boyfriends, none of which could possibly substitute for a father…Two guys on the road. Bad boys? Angels? Two cowboys drifting along in search of a home. Lucía slips in the bath in an absurd accident while Toni, her husband, is getting into bed, her daughter Alba chatting to a friend on the phone and Sergio, the little one, stuffing himself with pizza in front of his computer. No-one ever thinks about going blind. Lucía doesn't either and the doctor's diagnostic signifies the end for her. She can no longer paint, her great passion, can't look at the sea, or watch her children growing up. She'll never again be able to escape from a life she hated. Blindness is like falling into a coffin while you're alive. Lucía thinks she'll suffocate, feels like she'll die. She begins a journey into herself, discovering what she couldn't see before about her own life.

Chersogno is a small village in the western Italian Alps. The settlement is kept alive by a few elderly inhabitants and a fleeting summer tourist industry. A French shepherd arrives in the village, accompanied by his young family, his goats and the paraphernalia of his cheese-making business. The townsfolk welcome him warmly, though not with open arms, and it seems that his arrival may herald a possible new beginning for the village. However as time goes on, living conditions in the become harder, misunderstandings occur, attitudes harden and the seed of
jealously is planted. Some of the inhabitants begin to feel this new presence is just a little to intrusive, and a series of events lead the village to split in two.
