Xanadu, Florida. We are in editor Charles Foster Kane’s palace, the powerful magnate who dying. Before he dies, he whispers the name Rosebud (Rosabella) and lets a glass ball fall, the ones with fake snow in them. Images of magazines and newspapers appear and they give us information about Charles and little by little we come to know the story of his life and his career. Jerry Thompson the reporter investigates on him, interviewing his friends, his acquaintances, and his wife. The masterpiece film of the Twentieth century, the one everyone would have directed. Taken as an example like the masterpiece to study and emulate. After his radio hit program in 1938, Hollywood took interest in him. Instead Orson refused three screenplays in 1936 and declined two offers on behalf of David O. Selznick and William Wyler. He wrote the screenplay with Herman J. Mankiewicz apart from each other and exchanged papers until Welles was satisfied. William Randolph Hearst was his main inspiration, although the director also based his characters on other rich businessmen. Hearst banned any reference, publicity, critics or other material about Citizen Kane from his publications. The film was a success in spite of the high costs, RKO wasn’t satisfied and Wells’ ordeal started from there.
