TRIBUTE TO VITTTORIO MEZZOGIORNO (75th anniversary since the birth):

The festival has already paid tribute in Napoli in 1999 edition. Mezzogiorno was a Neapolitan actor who passed away very young (52 years) for an incurable disease. Actor with the great power of acting and with a very intense gaze, he made his theatrical debut in the Eduardo de Filippo theatre company. In his short but intense career he has alternated the profession of actor, which has reached the highest artistic level on stage with the Mahabharata, which was interpreted by him around the world, (and also shot a film version always with Peter Brook ) acting on tv series for which he became famous in Italy (The Octopusseasons 5 and 6) in which he played the cop David Licata after the murder of Commissioner Cattani of the first series played by Michele Placido.

 

Very prolific his film career that has seen him interpreter fifty titles, often acting with major Italian directors (Zampa, Montaldo, Loy, Magni, Negrin, Giordana, Lizzani, etc.) and then became the favorite actor of many foreign authors such as Peter Brook (Mahabharata), Patrice Chereau (L'Homme Blesse) Werner Herzog (Scream of stone) Jean-Louis Comolli (Cecilia) Jean Jacques Beinex (La lune dans le caniveau) Daniel Schmidt (Off season), Robert Henry (The French revolution) Amos Gitai (Golem), etc.

 

Daughter Giovanna Mezzogiorno has followed his father's footsteps and was in the documentary that traced the life and career helping to discover one of the largest and most talented Italian actors.
