Brief synopsis:
The present.Tuscany. A level crossing. Mario, a teacher, and Saverio, a school janitor are in the car waiting for a train to pass. They're talking about their problems when they notice that the train is taking a long time to pass, so they look for an alternative route. Their car breaks down and it gets dark and starts raining so they seek refuge at an inn for the night. However they find that their room is already occupied by a guest. The next morning, the man is suddenly killed by a spear and the two friends realise they have travelled through time and are in Frittole in 1492. Vitellozzo, the brother of the murdered man takes them in and later gives them work in his family workshop. Mario then falls in love with Pia, a girl kept locked up by her parents. Vitellozzo ends up in jail. Saverio writes a letter to Girolamo Savonarola, but without success. Saverio also becomes jealous of the meetings between Pia and Mario and urges his friend to go to Spain to stop Christopher Columbus leaving for America. To get to Spain they have to pass through France, and there they come across none other than Leonardo Da Vinci.
