A trip to Sarajevo in 2009, with his adolescent son Pietro, becomes for Gemma a recall of a painful past, discovering a cathartic unknown truth. From there she escaped with Pietro when he was an baby, in the late 1992. At that time the terrible Yugoslav wars had started to bloody the Balkans and she was without Diego, a husband with whom she had shared an intense and passionate love before pushing it in the arms of a Bosnian girl, Aska. Gemma, obsessed with her infertility, had consented to her husband's union with the Aska, driven by the dream of surrogate maternity, losing him forever. All that remains of Diego, seems be Pietro. Guided by her old friend Gojko, however, she is bringed back to Aska, who returns the truth to her, revealing that she never really copulate with Gemma's husband, Diego. Infact, before that could happen, she was terribly raped by some soldiers. So Pietro became the fruit of that rape.
